UN sends letter to Cypriot leaders ahead of Greentree meeting
In his letter, Ban enumerates elements of the last stage including a multi-lateral conference.

The secretary general of the United Nations (UN) has sent letters to Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders, diplomatic sources said on Saturday.
In his letters to President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says parties have entered into the last stage in Cyprus talks.
Eroglu and Christofias are expected to hold a trilateral meeting with Ban in Greentree, New York on January 22-24.
In his letter, Ban enumerates elements of the last stage including a multi-lateral conference.
Ban puts forth upcoming Greek Cypriot presidency of the European Union (EU) as a deadline, and stresses that parties should reach success in ongoing talks since that day.
The secretary general says a map will also be negotiated but after Greentree meeting, and reiterates his invitation to spouses of Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders to come to Greentree together with Eroglu and Christofias.
According to diplomatic observers, tendency of the Greek Cypriot administration to postpone or cancel Greentree summit is no more a possibility after Ban's clear and frank invitation.
